Veronica and the Volcano by Geoffrey Cook is an exciting adventure story for grades 3 - 5 about a brave, curious young girl named Veronica, who lives on the side of a volcano. Eruptions are a part of life, as she watches from the protective shields of her home or from her family's well-equipped Lava Car.
When Veronica leaves on a quest to find rare white volcano pearls on the far side of Mount Mystery, she leads her father, her best friend Maddy, and her friend's dad, the blustering Captain John, into a series of incredible adventures. But when the colossal volcano erupts, fears wins an election, and Veronica must square off against a fear-mongering villain: the Man-in-White.
I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion*

We were recently able to review Veronica and the Volcano. This is a children's chapter book with 320 pages.  Veronica and the Volcano is a story about a little girl who is perfectly ordinary except for one very important factor, she lives on a volcano!  That tidbit right there sparked my daughters interest in this book.  Who exactly lives on a volcano?  How can you live on a volcano?  I have to read this!

This book is well written and a great adventure.  Along the way, you learn plenty of facts about volcanos making this reading adventure fun.  I found towards the end of the book to be a bit scary for younger children.  I do not want to post any spoilers but there is a bit of death that may scare and worry some more sensitive children.   These moments could make for some great talking points between you and your child.

This book follows Veronica and her family as they live on a volcano.  How they protect themselves and there home for future volcanic eruptions. Vericona wants to get her mother a special gift for her birthday which takes her on a grand adventure on the far side of the mountain.  Along the way, she learned history about her home and about an evil man in white.  Who is this evil man in white?

Geoffery Cook does an amazing job writing this children's novel.  It takes your mind on an adventure.  There are many ups and downs, with some evil vs. good throughout.  This book really held our attention while we read about the quest that Verconia is on.  I love that this book is full of educational elements for some STEM learning providing a glossary in the back of the book to better help understand a term. A great "volcano" book for older children!
